New Swift Current Broncos shot-caller Dean Brockman continued to prepare his roster for the 2018-19 WHL season this past week, announcing the acquisition of 20-year-old defenceman Ryan Pouliot, along with the signings of import forward Joona Kiviniemi and import defenceman Roope Pynnonen to WHL Standard Player Agreements.

Pouliot, who spent the 2017-18 season with the Kootenay ICE, was acquired off waivers Thursday, July 26. Kiviniemi was also signed that day, while Pynnonen put pen to paper on Monday, July 30.

Pouliot – a 6-foot-2, 176-pound product of North Vancouver, B.C. – is a veteran of 169 career WHL regular season contests, having tallied 30 points (3G-27A) along the way.

Kiviniemi is a 16-year-old product of Oulu, Finland, having been selected in the first round (59th) of the 2018 CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-1, 161-pound forward posted three points (1G-2A) in 12 games with Karpat U18 of Finnish Junior B SM-sarja. Internationally, Kiviniemi logged two assists in three games with the Finnish U-17 team during 2017-18.

Pynnonen – a 17-year-old product of Tampere, Finland – joins the Broncos as a 5-foot-10, 183-pound blue liner. He spent 2017-18 with HPK U18 of Finnish Junior B SM-sarja, registering two assists in 16 games.

The Broncos will open the 2018 WHL Pre-season on Friday, August 31, when they visit the Regina Pats.
