On this edition of WHL WEB TV – Alumni Spotlight we feature former Saskatoon Blades defenceman Mike Green who spent four seasons in the WHL (2001-2005) appearing in 267 regular season games. At the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the Calgary, Alberta native was selected in the first round – 29th overall by the Washington Capitals.
Green has emerged as an elite NHL defenceman while playing on a young and talented Washington team that included forwards Alexander Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Nicklas Backstrom. On February 14, 2009, Green scored in his eighth consecutive game setting the NHL record for most consecutive games with a goal by a defenceman, the former record was set by Mike O'Connell during the 1983-84 NHL Season.
Derek Hulak started off his 19 year old season with the Blades by receiving the highest honour, voted as the 2008/09 team Captain from his colleagues. He has welcomed the resposibility and has done a tremendous job leading his Club on the ice, off the ice and on the scoresheet. SHAW TV's Tara Campbell reports from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
